Jones was identified as the suspect in the robbery of Iberia Bank, 3500 Desiard Street on December 21, 2011 and Capital One Bank, 800 Sterlington Road on January 21, 2012.  

Jones was also arrested for the September 16, 2011  armed robbery of La Quinta Inn, 1035  Hwy 165 South.

On December 1, 2011, Kendrick was involved in a shooting that occurred at Delta Mini Mart in the 2100 block of Desiard Street where an individual was shot in the abdominal area.

The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital.

The 2012 City of Monroe Address was presented Tuesday, February 7th at the Monroe Civic Center by Mayor Jamie Mayo.

Each City department had a display for information pertaining to their respective responsibilities within the city.

MPD had three vehicles on display; the Special Response Team (SRT) “Bearcat”, the Blood Alchohol Testing unit, and a police motorcycle. Also displayed was a three-monitor video presentation in a mock police-unit model that highlight the accomplishments of 2011 and goals of 2012.

Equipment and gear from the SRT and Explosive Ordnance Devices teams were available for viewing; the protective gear and robots were a frequent topic of discussion.

A walk-through tour of the Blood Alcohol Testing unit provided insight on how DWI-enforcement is documented with audio and video recording.

After further investigation, it was revealed that the mother placed the handgun in the lunch box some time ago. The student unknowingly took the lunch box to school.

The juvenile was arrested for illegal possession of a handgun on school ground and transported to Green Oaks Detention Center.

Mardi Gras Parade Notifications

Monroe Police Department will be implementing the use of its official Facebook, Twitter, and Nixle accounts to provide live updates for the 2012 Mardi Gras parade as it travels through West Monroe and Monroe on Saturday, February 11^th.

The public is invited to follow the progress of the lead and end escort units, as well as any delays or events that may affect the public during the parade.

Citizens are encouraged to sign up now through the free Nixle service. Mobile devices can receive the most accurate information about the parade directly by sending a text message to 888777 with the message “mpdparade”.

All messages through Nixle will also be repeated on our official Facebook and Twitter profile pages.

The Twitter notifications will use the hashtag term “#mpdParade” so that citizens can follow the status of the parade by searching for that tagword that links to the local parade here in the Twin Cities.

Incident Notification

MPD would like to advise citizens that it is also utilizing Nixle, a free service, as a means to provide notifications to the public using a three-tier system to classify incidents as urgent, advisory, or general. This system can send messages using text and/or email services to people who subscribe for the notifications. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect Darrett Jackson had been shot in the leg and left hip. Jackson was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

This case is currently under investigation.

Orie R. Fuller is a missing juvenile; he was last seen on January 12, 2012 at the National Guard Armory located in Monroe.

Chief Holmes released a comparison of crime statistics for 2011 and 2010.

The report indicates an 18.3% overall reduction in the amount of police reports filed from 2011 to 2010, with some zones having as much as a 25.3% decrease and all zones experiencing at least a 12.9% decrease.

Kenneth Ray Caldwell was arrested as a conspirator for his part as a getaway driver for a bank robbery.

On January 30, 2012, Monroe Police arrested Kenneth Ray Caldwell, DOB 5-2-1984 , for Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery with a gun. The investigation revealed Caldwell was the getaway driver during the robbery of Capital One Bank, 800 Sterlington Road on January 21, 2012.

MPD is still searching for the bank robber, Antonio R. Jones, B/M, whose date of birth is 10/02/1978 and an arrest warrant has been issued.

After 39 years and 26 days, Assistant Chief of Police Herbert W. Otwell is retiring from the Monroe Police Department.
