
The Patrol Bureau is the most visible element of the Monroe Police Department.
The Patrol Bureau is the largest and most visible component of the City of Monroe Police Department. This bureau is commanded by Major Tom Torregrossa.
The Patrol Bureau is responsible for providing reactive and proactive community oriented policing over the 32 square mile expanse of the City of Monroe that is sub-divided into 9 zones. Patrol of the city is conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. Patrol officers also assist allied agencies within and adjacent to the city limits of Monroe.
The population within the incorporated city limits is approximately 49,000 people; the estimated service population of Monroe is approximately 100,000+ citizens.
The organization of the Patrol Bureau consists of two Captains that direct the work of four “teams” 12 hour day or night shift- each individual team is assigned multiple officers and corporals that respond to calls for service. The supervisory staff of each team is comprised of sergeants and lieutenants. A captain is assigned two teams and reports directly to the patrol commander.
Incorporated in the Patrol Bureau are the following programs: Airport Security, Parking Enforcement, Traffic Enforcement, K-9, and Animal Control. In addition to the aforementioned assignments, patrol officers can be assigned to a myriad of duties within the department to include the Dive Team, Special Response Team, Honor Guard, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, and Field Training Officers.
Each year*, the Patrol Bureau typically receives approximately 100,000 telephone calls and initiates 25,000+ reports; approximately 14,000 citations are written for traffic violations and 9,000+ arrests are effected.
Parking enforcement results in almost 7,000 citations, and Animal Control responds to 700+ complaints. Officers assigned for security at the Monroe Airport Terminal log 9,000+ details and issued 500+ parking tickets.
