Program To Reduce Abuse

Program to reduce abuse, neglect, and juvenile crime was introduced to Monroe today.

Ouachita Parish law enforcement brass held a news conference on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the Public Safety Center to raise awareness about the connection between child abuse and neglect, as well as juvenile crime. Chief Quentin D. Holmes, Sr. and Assistant District Attorney Stephen Sylvester released a report showing that thousands of Louisiana kids can become victims of child abuse and neglect every year.

Senior Communications Associate Ted Eismeir with Fight Crime: Invest in Kids provided details of the program that has helped reduce child abuse and neglect with parents and caregivers.

The report also showed that voluntary home visiting programs can cut child abuse and neglect by half and significantly reduce later crime. Chief Holmes will call on state lawmakers and the Governor to maintain and build on Louisiana’s investment in voluntary home visiting as an effective way to prevent child abuse, improve public safety and save taxpayer dollars.
