MPD has these travel safety tips to get to your holiday destination.
The Monroe Police Department has these travel tips to help plan your Thanksgiving holiday travel carefully to arrive safely at your destination.
- Check the fluids for your vehicle; oil and coolant levels are very important and could prevent a breakdown on the road and the expense of repair.
- Check the air pressure for your tires, including the spare! Proper inflation saves gas and increases your safety on the road.
- Set your GPS before you leave the driveway; this will help keep you focused on driving attentively.
- Put a full charge on your cellphone- leave on time and let your family know your expected arrival time. Make a quick call if you experience any trouble or unexpected delays.
- Wear your seatbelt and don’t rush; traffic will be congested so stay patient and understand that other out-of-town visitors will be looking for their destination too.
- Stop only at well-lit places for directions or restroom breaks, preferably a convenience store or other reputable place of business. Only get help from a employee inside, never from someone outside the business.
- Never pick-up hitchhikers.
- Lock your vehicle at all times, and keep valuables (electronics, purses, presents, etc) out of sight to deter a break-in.
Have a safe holiday!
