2010 Crime Statistics

Monroe has experienced a 1.61% reduction in crime for 2010.

Mayor Jamie Mayo and the Monroe City Council are pleased to announce overall crime was down 1.61% for the year 2010.  There was a reduction in number of rapes, robberies and auto thefts in 2010.

Mayor Jamie Mayo says, “Public Safety is one of our key focus areas.  As we continue to recruit, expand, and start new businesses, a reduction in crime helps to improve our city image and overall quality of life for residents.  The City Council and I truly appreciate the hard work of the men and women in the Monroe Police Department.”

Interim Police Chief Herbert Otwell adds, ” Over all, we are pleased with the fact that we had a 1.61% decrease in crime and although our burglaries were  up, we cleared many of those through arrest.  Homicides increased by 50%  but all cases have been cleared.  We also had a decrease in robberies by 20% and auto theft by 17%.  Our Patrol Bureau, Investigative Bureau and Special Operations Bureau have worked very hard to decrease the number of crimes in our city this year and have brought many cases to close through arrest.”
