On September 28, 1985, at approximately 1130 hours, a fight occurred at The Ark-La-Miss fair in which a 13 year old white male, identified as Jimmy Townsend, was beaten to death by several black male suspects. The suspects’ ages ranged from 15-19 years old at the time this crime was committed. Although there were other fights at the fair on the night in question, this was the only fight that occurred at the Farmer’s Market original location on the east end of the civic center complex.

Detectives with the Monroe Police Department have re-opened this case and are seeking to interview all original witness to this crime and anyone that may have witnessed this fight but was not contacted by the police in 1985.
