Police officer candidates must:

Be complete and honest on employment application.

Attain a passing score on the Civil Service Police Officer Test. (Administered by the Louisiana Civil Service Commission)

Achieve the minimum physical requirements required for the Physical Agility Test.

Pass a thorough background & criminal history to establish evidence of good character and acceptable conduct.

Interview with an Oral Board to determine if all standard requirements have been met.

Pass a polygraph test to verify application information for completeness, accuracy, and truthfulness.

Any applicant who has successfully passed the above phases of the selection process may be offered conditional employment.


The following steps are next along the path to become a MPD Officer:

Pass a psychological examination to ensure applicant’s emotional ability to adapt and function in stressful environment.

Pass a medical examination and drug screen.

Upon successful completion of the selection process, you will have a final interview with the Chief who will either approve or disapprove your employment at the Monroe Police Department.

Starting Salary: $24,415.56 – $30,115.56 / Year
Longevity Pay / 2% Increase per Year
$500 / Month State Supplemental Pay (After 1 Year of Service)
